Raleigh Main StreetRaleigh is the county seat of Smith County. The town of Raleigh covers an area of 5.0 square miles and has a population of 1,237. The elevation is 544 feet, and there is an average annual rainfall of 57 inches. The town is named for Raleigh, NC.
Raleigh has close access to Hwys 18, 35, 37, and 501.
In the photo above, the area under construction at left is the site of the new Chancery and Jail building. It will stand adjacent to the Smith County Courthouse.

downtown MizeMize is a small town in Smith County. The total population is 289, and it covers 2.33 square miles with an elevation of 299 feet. The population per square mile is 122.15. Mize is located on the crossing of two state highways, Hwy 28 and Hwy 35, and several pretty creeks,Clear Creek and Oakohay Creek wind through the town. Mize is known for its world famous Smith County watermelons, and its annual celebration of the harvest, The Annual Watermelon Festival on Saturday July 22, 2006. Come to Mize for free watermelon, music, food vendors, rock climbing and other fun activities!
Polkville Town Hall and LibraryPolkville is a small town located in the north western part of the county. The population is 130 at an elevation of 510 ft. The land area of Polkville is 2.3 square miles. The median resident age is 39.7 years with a median household income of $39,375.   
Pictured at left is the town hall and library. Polkville has a music barn where bluegrass, country and gospel music performances are held.
Town of TaylorsvilleTaylorsville is located in the southern part of Smith county.It's population is 1341 with a land area of 3.7 square miles and an elevation of 270 ft. As of 2000, the median income in Taylorsville was $28,562, median age is 38.0 with 628 males and 713 females. Taylorsville is located at the busy crossing of two state highways, Hwy 28 and Hwy 37. Most of the industry in Smith County is located in the West Taylorsville Industrial Park, where there are 86 acres available for industrial development. Taylorsville is located near the Leaf River.
Sylvarena Town HallSylvarena is located in the east central part of Smith County between Raleigh and Bay Springs, with a population of 120, and a land area of 2.6 square miles. The elevation is 367 ft.
At left is the Sylvarena Town Hall, and nearby is a Remy Community Center. Remy Reman's presence is known through out Smith County, with plants at several locations.
