The Magnolia State Hope Fund presented the Pine Belt Restoration with a check for $18,093.58. Funds will be used to repair homes that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina in Jasper, Jones and Smith counties.  Of that donation, $7330.42 will be used in Jasper County, $7957.47 will be used in Jones County and $2805.65 will be used in Smith County.
Construction of a New Chancery Building and Jail is planned in Raleigh. The site is cleared, and ready for construction when plans are completed.

Carbon Dioxide Pipeline
Smith County Board of Supervisors learned Monday morning at their reular scheduled meeting that a Denbury Resources, Inc. carbon dioxide pipeline that has been snaked through the county is expected to generate several jobs in the county. They also entertained a request ffrom Denbury representative Kerry Allen for a tax exemption on the $5.5 million line that runs through Smith County.
Charles Waldrup retires
County Director, Smith County Extension Service Charles Waldrup is retiring after 26 years of service. Charles has won many awards and made many friends during his years as county agent. He worked in Jones County and at the Choctaw Reservation in Philadelphia before coming to Smith County in 1983.
A well-attended and successful Beef and Poultry Expo was held April 13 2006 at the Agriculture Center in Raleigh, MS on April 13, 2006.
