Smith county has excellent public school systems: Raleigh School System, with 1,412 students, Taylorsville school system with 965 students, and Mize school system with 728 students, and the Smith County Vocational Complex, serving the entire county. The school systems are fully accredited by the State Department of Education, designated by the State as a level 3. The high schools offer programs for disabled and gifted students, and have Vocational-Technical Programs available.

Vocational Technical Training available at JCJC
Comprehensive and post-secondary vocational-technical education and training is available at the campus of Jones Junior College in Ellisville, MS. The community college offers a number of terminal curricula prorams as well as preparatory curricula for further study in the field of vocational-technical-education. Students entering into the structured career opportunity curricula which have been developed to meet area employment needs are prepared for immediate employment upon completion of the program. Jones County Junior College also offers vocational technical training through adult night classes and is involved in the industrial start-up training program. This program provides a system through which an industry locating in Smith County may receive job specific training for its employees.
